Truck Generations

Iran, Teheran, Dome of Mina Planetarium.

What looks like an over-sized crown made of concrete is in fact the largest planetarium in the Middle East.

The so-called “Dome of Mina” was inaugurated in October 2014 as part of a festive ceremony at which Tehran's mayor, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and several high-ranking representatives from the Iranian Space Agency (ISA) were present.

The planetarium, built in a suburb of Tehran, serves both for educational and entertainment purposes. It provides visitors a spectacular view of the stars and has various projectors for the sun, moon, planets and other stars. The artificial sky canopy in the dome has a diameter of around 30 metres.

Of course a planetarium like that requires a spot of technical equipment here and there – thankfully the LP 608 is on hand to take care of those deliveries. It is a member of the truck model series that was the first to roll off the production line at the Mercedes-Benz plant at Wörth in 1965. Today, many of these types of vehicles are still reliably performing their duties on Tehran's streets and across the Middle East.
