Truck of the Week Triumphs

Truck of the Week

Shining a spotlight on some of the best trucks in the business, with the people who know them best – the drivers.

We’ve been wowed by the passion and dedication of our drivers this year, not to mention their tremendous trucks. So here is a round-up of some of our favourites, along with why their Mercedes-Benz trucks are stars, not just on a weekly basis, but all year through.

Our driving stars.

We started our popular #TruckoftheWeek series to illustrate the enthusiasm of our dedicated Mercedes-Benz drivers, who blow us away with their passion; they are the ultimate advocates for the three-pointed star.

One such star (in his own right) is Martyn Jenkins, otherwise known as Trucker Jenko, a keen vlogger who has achieved over 15,000 followers on YouTube documenting his adventures on the road while hauling for distribution specialist, Ferryman Limited.

Like many drivers this summer, Martyn’s work continued through the sweltering heatwaves, regularly clocking the miles up and down the North East. It was no sweat however as he had the luxury of a fully air-conditioned cab, courtesy of his sleek Actros Edition 1.

He enthused, “I’ve been keeping cool in my cab thanks to the efficient air-con system. Plus, my multimedia system has been keeping me entertained with summer tunes!”

Martyn has been driving Mercedes-Benz trucks for over 26 years and has no plans to stop any time soon, particularly as it provides a plush home from home whilst he’s trailblazing up and down the country, “The Actros is really comfortable, and has plenty of space thanks to the huge top bunk.”

Tough trucks you can trust.

Another star fan is Dan Thorne, who has taken the helm of wagons, drags and tankers for eight years. He works for Selwood Ltd in Weymouth who have recently purchased a brand new Arocs to handle the toughest tasks across the South West. Dan scooped up the #TruckoftheWeek award back in May this year.

"Our new Arocs is a fantastic truck to drive, from its rugged looks to the impressive MirrorCam system. The Arocs is great for the work we do, accessing sewage works - which could be in the middle of the night, as Selwood provides 24/7 call outs,” explained Dan.

Reliability during the hardest times.

He continued, “We need the best truck for the job to take us to very tricky and restricted access sites, plus having rear-wheel steering helps massively. The Predictive Powertrain Control (PPC) system is superb and takes the added stress out of driving."

Drivers like Dan appreciate the importance of operating a vehicle you can rely on during the hardest of times. Just like his unwavering work ethic and commitment to Mercedes-Benz, the Arocs powers through and continuously proves it’s a truck you can trust, every day.

Mercedes-Benz through history.

We absolutely love seeing a three-pointed star fleet, especially if the trucks represent important milestones in a company’s history. Lenham Storage Co Ltd featured in the series at the beginning of 2022 with a stunning line up of flagship Mercedes-Benz models, all of which were decorated beautifully with colourful company branding.

The three trucks were each commissioned to celebrate a different decade from the haulier’s expansive and illustrious history, pledging both a long-time commitment to their customers and our brand.

Dedication like this inspires us to keep doing what we do, evolving our trucks to make them the best vehicles possible for our drivers.

Sunsets and superb trucks.

Finally, we must share recent #TruckoftheWeek winner, Leszek Spidi’s gorgeous limited-edition Actros Edition 1. We were won over by the beautiful shot of the modern, polished truck set against a blazing sunset.

Leszek has been a happy trucker for MJ Slater Haulage Ltd, based in Cumbria, for nearly two years and he can’t get enough of his winning vehicle.

The company specialise in steel and concrete products as well as wide and long loads, predominantly pulling flatbed trailers.

“We have five Mercedes-Benz trucks in our fleet, including two Actros Edition 2 vehicles and one Edition 1,” Leszek stated. “I’m very happy with my truck. The comfort and performance go beyond my expectations, and it has unbeatable space.”

Just 400 Actros Edition 2s have been built for customers worldwide, and only 35 Edition 1 units were available in the UK. Only by getting its order in very early, was the business able to receive three of these comfortable, high-performance, limited-edition trucks.

The search continues.

Our #TruckoftheWeek campaign has proved an all-round success so far, but we’re not stopping there. We’re always on the hunt for photos of trusted trucks in action, driven by the people who care about them the most, our passionate trucking community.

Keep sharing your pictures on our social channels and writing in about why you love your Mercedes-Benz truck to be in for a chance to be featured next!
