On the test bench: the Actros with new powertrain

Test drive

New power for the Actros.

Prelude to an exciting event: Nine professional drivers put the new powertrain pack in the Actros through its paces over two days.

The anticipation and excitement can be felt as developers and drivers meet in Wörth and Grünstadt. Daimler Truck AG engineers have given the powertrain an update, which is now being tested by professional drivers.

For drivers to be able to directly compare the original with the new powertrain, the following are available at both locations: an Actros 1845 current series version, an Actros L 1845 as the new flagship, in which the optimised powertrain package will go into series production in October 2022, and an Actros 1848 with the optimised powertrain package, which has also been set to an 1845 with 330 kW (450 hp) for the sake of comparison.

Before starting.

The testers are now taking a close look at the 1845 with an optimised powertrain package and can hardly wait to get behind the wheel. During the test drives, the focus is on gradients, acceleration, moving off in roundabouts – in addition to driving comfort and fuel savings. All the drivers know the Actros well and some drive it themselves. The routes are fixed, after each lap the participants switch trucks.

What happens next and what do the drivers have to say about the new powertrain pack after the test lap? Engine, clutch and transmission, extended top torque as well as accelerator and software optimisation coming in the next four parts!
