Secret Places

Porto Budello, Italy.

The place:

Porto Budello lies in a small bay on the southern coast of Sardinia. The tiny township is part of the municipality of Teulada with just under 3700 inhabitants. The hidden bays in this picturesque section of coast around Porto Budello are very popular with sailing enthusiasts. It is almost always high season in the 250-berth marina on the opposite side of the bay. Yachts of all sizes and nationalities come and go here. As charming as the area may be – the nearest commercial port is only 75 kilometres away in Cagliari. A stroke of luck for both skippers and drivers.

Insider's tip:

"Those who don't take the time to relax here have only themselves to blame. Nowhere else is the Mediterranean this paradisical: blue sky, clear water, green hills and a succession of passing yachts … and I love the pasta with seafood that Gianni prepares in the restaurant opposite. This is a place to take time and enjoy being alive."
