Offroad in Switzerland: Arocs 3251 in the mountains

Everyone who drives the New Arocs at Zbinden is full of praise for its capabilities in extreme terrain. “Going uphill, Mercedes PowerShift moves the gears swiftly and precisely,” says Rolf Zbinden. “Going downhill, the High Performance Engine Brake does a brilliant job in combination with the secondary water retarder. When you’ve got ten cubic metres of marl loaded and a gravel track with a 16% gradient ahead, you must be able to rely on the truck doing exactly what the driver expects. It’s a matter of safety!” The Swiss company Zbinden Transporte & Baggerunternehmen from Sangernboden does construction haulage, operates a winter service for the local municipality and carries out machinery transportation. It also already chose the New Arocs early last year because it was one of the first Euro VI tippers in the market. “We attach particular importance to environmental protection. After all, we work day in and day out in our beautiful mountain world,” says Rolf Zbinden. In May this year, a quarry here was again hit by a wintry bad weather front.

“To ensure that our trucks pay off in tough mountain operations they must bring along power, robustness and efficiency. The New Arocs, which we use to transport, among other things, marl from our quarry at an altitude of 1500 metres, meets these requirements perfectly.”
