4-Xtremes – Part 68: The long road to the “end of the world”
Series: 4-Xtremes – The World Tour
From Buenos Aires, Andrea and Mike are working their way south. On the road, they experience a proper Argentine barbecue – and plenty of off-road driving fun!
To get to our next destination, we are heading south for 3,079 kilometres straight! That’s the length of Ruta 3, the road that goes from Argentina’s capital Buenos Aires to the “end of the world”: the city of Ushuaia in the province of Tierra del Fuego (Fireland). But as you know, we rarely take the direct route!
First of all, we visit friends in a village next to the Atlantic who we haven't seen in forever. At get-togethers like this, one thing is a must: an asado – an Argentine barbecue! At asados, there's one kilogram of meat each! There's also a baguette to hold the meat and a slice of tomato if you want!
Re-energised for Ruta 3.
And so we are re-energised as we head out onto Ruta 3! But our journey is not without its detours. The temptation to take a trip to the coast is too great. The time has finally come back around to take the Axor for a spin on sand! The surface varies in softness. To keep on the safe side, we lower the tyre pressure from 6 to 3 bar.
The endless coastline is sparsely populated, so we easily find places for off-road trips where we don't disturb anyone. And most of these offroad trips also result in us finding places to spend the night too! For a change, one time, we go to a salt lake with pink flamingos.
Driving with a headwind.
The further south, the more violent the wind blows. After, in the middle of nowhere, we cross the 40 degrees south line, one phenomenon in particular becomes clearly noticeable: there is very little land mass around to serve as a wind brake.
More often than not, we're driving headlong into the wind. Sometimes, it’s so loud in the cab that we switch off the music: we can't hear it anyway. Our fuel consumption is also going up. Suddenly, the wind starts blowing from the side, forcing us to seek shelter behind some trees in the next village.
It’s getting colder too. Just a few days ago, it was 37 degrees but now, the temperature displayed on the thermometer is a good 20 degrees lower. We balance out the long days on the road with cycling and beach hikes in the evenings. There's also the anticipation of our next exciting stop-offs.
4-Xtremes – The World Tour.
An unparalleled journey.
Andrea and Mike Kammermann have been on tour in their Axor for three years. "4-Xtremes – The World Tour" is the motto of the journey that the two Swiss nationals embarked on in mid-2020 and which they share with the RoadStars community. Keep up to date and don't miss out on any of the stunning destinations visited by the adventurous pair.

Geniale Aufnahmen vom Radeln am Strand in Schräglage! 👍👌
Und dann die eingängige Beschreibung von Asado:
Pro Person 1 Kilo Fleisch, Baguette zum Halten und optional eine Scheibe Tomate --- Beschränkung auf das Wesentliche... 😜😂😆
Das macht schon wieder Lust auf mehr Berichte - Gute Fahrt euch weiterhin! 😎
