We look a back at testimonials from those who were among the first in the hot seat to drive the impressive Actros Edition 2 in 2021.
The limited edition Actros Edition 2 is one of Mercedes-Benz Trucks’ most exclusive truck offerings to date, with each model featuring a polished aluminum badge on the co-driver’s side, hailing every Edition 2 as “One of 400”.
Driver appeal is raised to a new level, thanks to a cab interior that is every bit as eye-catching inside as the exterior. Edition 2 drivers also benefit from an extensive standard equipment list which exudes a premium feel but don’t just take our word for it – Mercedes-Benz Trucks caught up with customers lucky enough to own an Edition 2.

Perhaps one of the best reasons why drivers should want to pilot an Edition 2, is summed up perfectly by Essex-based ‘Tiptree Jam’ producer, Wilkin & Sons. Transport manager Kevin King explained: “We like to look after the lads and provide them with the first-class equipment they deserve as ambassadors for our business.
“That’s never been more important than in these current times of acute driver shortages – if we can put smiles on their faces by giving them vehicles they enjoy driving, then they’ll want to keep coming to work for Wilkin & Sons.”

East Sussex-based operator, Haulaway commissioned a stunning Actros Edition 2 tractor unit as the company turned 30 last year. Driver Jason Hedges said: “I really can’t fault the Edition 2. It’s a very special truck indeed, and one that I feel privileged to be driving.”

Modern technology that doesn’t scare us.
Other motorists may have noticed one of the standout exterior features of the Actros model - MirrorCam. Some may have wondered how drivers in the industry have adapted to the new technology.
For Haulaway’s Jason Hedges, a driver with over 30 years’ experience, it was surprising how quickly he adapted to his new truck’s MirrorCam system and radical dashboard.
Hedges explained: “If I’m honest I had big reservations about losing the mirrors, but the cameras work amazingly well, and the visibility is much better. As for the Multimedia Cockpit, interactive, I’m the least ‘techy’ person you can imagine, but it’s so easy to use that a five-year-old could do it.”
The Edition 2 also comes with a full complement of high-tech aids for increased safety, efficiency and comfort. However, we all need some guidance with technology. Thankfully, Mercedes-Benz Trucks UK fits all Actros with a QR code that links to video tutorials on YouTube.

Actros Edition 2 packs a punch.
The Actros Edition 2 is a rare truck on UK roads. In fact, just 400 Edition 2s were produced at the factory - and a much smaller number of these reached the UK. WT Warehouse & Transport Solutions’ new flagship is a 2553 variant with range-topping GigaSpace cab and 390 kW (530 hp), 12.8-litre in-line six-cylinder engine.

Haulaway driver, Jason Hedges, has always favoured a Swedish truck brand, but the new Actros Edition 2 won him over. Hedges said: “Inside and out, the styling and build quality are second-to-none. The engine is so powerful and smooth that progress is effortless, while the seat is so good you could spend an entire week at the wheel and not feel tired, it’s that comfortable.”

There are three takeaway points from operators and drivers who have been Actros Edition 2 customers. It’s a special truck that resonates positivity with both operators and drivers who have association with them, something that can be passed on to their customers and strengthen relationships, whether it’s employer to employee or business to customer. It proves that new technology and higher equipment levels are welcome additions - even for experienced drivers who were not previously used to it. And finally, having more power on tap, combined with better fuel economy and even better comfort makes the Edition 2 a joy to drive - something that is very clear from our responses.
