Driver Phil loves the freedom of being on the open road

Long journeys don’t bother this trucker.

Phil has loved vehicles since he was a boy. Now 29, he’s been a trucker for six years, spending the last two working for J.H. Tank Services, based in Liverpool. He transports various types of fuel for different industries and his job can take him all over, “Last week I was carrying aviation fuel to an airport in Germany,” he says.

Phil also recently completed a two-day round trip from Liverpool to Portsmouth and back – 480 miles in total. He doesn’t mind the long journeys though, as he states “I really enjoy it, I don’t mind my own company. The main thing I really like is being my own boss, I’ve got no one hassling me.”

The Actros provides ultimate comfort.  

Phil’s day job is made a lot easier thanks to his Actros. Named ‘Janet’ after his boss’s wife, the vehicle is owned by the company, however Phil is the only one who drives it so can safely store his belongings in it and have it set up ready for every journey. When asked what he likes about it most, he replied “The size and comfort. It’s got massage seats, fridge freezer, kettle – it’s a home from home.”
