IAA focus is on efficiency

The 66th IAA Commercial Vehicles trade fair in Hanover is a window into the future of the mobile economy. Its very heart is located in Hall 14/15, at Mercedes-Benz. RoadEfficiency and Connectivity solutions are a topic that fascinates industry insiders, journalists and truck enthusiasts alike. That became obvious the moment the trade fair opened its doors, with many visitors converging on Mercedes-Benz to see the innovations for themselves.
With its eActros, Mercedes-Benz defines the state of the art of fully electric driving in heavy-duty distribution transport. The possibilities opened up as a result of the vehicle being linked into a network turn the Mercedes-Benz eActros into a smoothly functioning overall system where range and cargo management, information about the vehicle and environmental data are consistently linked.
Moreover, with RoadEfficiency Mercedes-Benz is not merely presenting a series of individual innovations – what is on show in Hall 14/15 is an integrated concept where all the various aspects of operating a truck are already interlinked in an intelligent manner. The RoadEfficiency concept rests on three main pillars: low overall costs, a high level of safety, and a high level of vehicle utilisation. A sophisticated show demonstrating how these elements mesh at Mercedes-Benz Trucks is held three times a day.
RoadEfficiency is Mercedes-Benz’s answer to the most urgent question being asked by the industry: how can I get even more out of each and every truck? In pursuit of this goal – and this is brought to life by the exhibits and in the in-depth discussions with the experts from Mercedes-Benz – reliable technologies, innovative safety concepts and smart services are tightly integrated at Mercedes-Benz Trucks. The package also includes numerous forward-looking innovations that visitors to the 66th IAA Commercial Vehicles trade fair can view first-hand.
RoadEfficiency also is the driving force behind the new generation of engines from Mercedes-Benz. With the introduction of the second generation of both the OM 470 and the OM 471 engines, consumption has again been reduced by up to five per cent in the OM 470, and by up to three per cent in the OM 471 thanks to a host of innovations. This benefits the environment and businesses in equal measure. The deployment analyses of the FleetBoard telematics system allow costs to be cut further.
Another part of RoadEfficiency is the new Mercedes-Benz Active Brake Assist 4 which, in conjunction with brand-new Sideguard Assist system, affords pedestrians even better protection, further enhancing the position of Mercedes-Benz Trucks as industry leader in terms of safety.
On show in Hanover is a clear demonstration that RoadEfficiency can boost vehicle utilisation to new levels. The innovative Mercedes-Benz service Uptime is causing quite a stir among the expert audience. This new service enables fleet managers to be kept up to date on the technical condition of their trucks at all times – breakdowns can be avoided, repairs are easier to manage, and maintenance is optimised. In addition, the FleetBoard system helps transport managers control the entire transport chain even more effectively. With its smart digital networking, Mercedes-Benz has taken a decisive step towards Logistics 4.0. For information, please check our RoadEfficiency microsite.
It’s been a permanent IAA fixture for a long time already: the Mercedes-Benz Driver’s Inn. This year the Western Saloon bearing the Star is again inviting truck enthusiasts and industry insiders to drop by and fortify themselves with cold drinks, live music and tasty snacks for the next leg of their journey of discovery towards RoadEfficiency. Tomorrow – the first day of the trade fair – you can read a report directly from the Driver’s Inn, including a look behind the scenes, right here at RoadStars.
The RoadStars Showtruck will again be making a stop at the IAA Commercial Vehicles trade fair. It is a meeting point where truck drivers and enthusiasts can gather for a chat and even enter the competition for the next Truck Trophy over fresh RoadStars waffles. Registered RoadStars members can go online to reserve their RoadStars gift ahead of their visit to the trade fair. The RoadStars Truck is at the entrance to Hall 14/15 out in the Mercedes-Benz outside premises, where it is joined by TruckWorks, the full-service offering for vans, trucks and trailers from a single source.
Also represented in Hall 14/15 are the various services associated with Mercedes-Benz trucks. For example, Mercedes-Benz is the first truck manufacturer to introduce the Digital Service Booklet in 30 European countries. Resplendent in its new green livery is the Mercedes-Benz CharterWay with ABE. ABE here stands for Anti-böses-Erwachen (German for “No rude awakenings”) and a transparent leasing service without hidden costs. The new Digital Solutions & Services business sector will in future integrate all digital services as well as FleetBoard under a single roof at Mercedes-Benz Trucks. Original parts and original remanufactured parts from Mercedes-Benz as well as Mercedes-Benz original accessories ensure that the trucks are top condition. Under the motto “Schutzengel an Bord – an jedem Tag und rund um die Uhr” (“Guardian angel on board – every day and around the clock”, the service is available 24 hours a day.
