Retro Classics 2017 – Mannheim plant
Retro Classics
“The cradle of the diesel engine”. At the Mercedes-Benz Mannheim plant, it’s all about engines.
In 1908, the current Mercedes-Benz Mannheim plant was founded in the Luzenberg quarter of Mannheim-Waldhof. It was here that engineer Carl Benz invented the engine on 29 January 1886 and thus the world’s first automobile. Around 5100 employees work at the plant, producing engines and associated components for all commercial vehicles from Daimler Trucks worldwide.
