The opening game for the 2014 football World Cup in Brazil was held in the "Corinthians" stadium in São Paulo. The arena accommodated 68,000 spectators. The stadium was also the staging ground for the semi-final between The Netherlands and Argentina, with the Latin American team winning 4:2 on penalties. Construction started three years before the kick off. The Mercedes-Benz Atron was used for diverse purposes during construction, including as a crane and a cement mixer.

Mercedes-Benz do Brasil is the biggest commercial vehicle manufacturer in Latin America. The market share in Brazil is 26 percent. In addition to the Atron, the Accelo, Atego, Axor and Actros are also available. They are produced in the two plants in São Bernardo do Campo and Juiz de Fora. 2014 wasn't just the year in which the World Cup was held, it was also the year that Mercedes-Benz sold 31,300 trucks in the biggest country in South America.
