Ten cylinders in an articulated truck: Dennis Rekate and his NG 1936 S

Classic vehicles

An uncommon Italian.

His grandfather and his father relied on new-generation tractor units – NG for short. Dennis Rekate built one just like them – but with unusual motorisation.

It all started with the LPS 2032; now Dennis Rekate is happy about his new addition.

A question of detail: Dennis Rekate is still looking for a suitable nameplate for the driver’s side.

“It’s almost a work of art.” The ten-cylinder engine with 18.3-litre capacity impresses Dennis Rekate.

The series.

Cab, engines, axles and transmissions – compared with the LP series, almost everything about the new-generation Mercedes forward-control truck tractors is new. The modular system based on the 400 engine series allows for V engines with six, eight and ten cylinders. The OM 423 has been available mainly in the construction sector since 1985. It remains unusual in tractor units.

The long-distance cab has a completely closed floor as well as a gear shifting system in which the shift linkage extends telescopically when the cab is tilted. This construction provides particularly good noise insulation.
