eActros Stuns at Transport Expo

ROAD TRANSPORT EXPO

Series of firsts as the three-pointed star dazzles at inaugural Road Transport Expo.

What better way to mark your UK show debut than taking centre stage at a brand-new trade show designed for HGV fleet operators? That’s exactly what happened to the all-electric Mercedes-Benz eActros which was presented for the first time at the inaugural Road Transport Expo in Stoneleigh, England.

A zone for every operator.

A new addition to the trucking events calendar, Road Transport Expo is designed for company owners, transport managers, HGV drivers and anyone who fulfils any essential role within the road haulage sector. HGVs were at the heart of everything the show offered, from the latest models available to ‘ride and drive’, through to informative seminars and live vehicle demonstrations.

The show was separated into several zones, which showcased dedicated trucking environments and disciplines, for example a tipper zone, one dedicated to urban deliveries, a zone for trailers and much more.

More than 150 brands assumed demonstration stands within these zones, including all major mainstream truck and trailer manufacturers, in addition to specialist heavy haulage companies, recovery specialists and everything in between.

Smart at the heart.

At the heart of the event was one of our smartest models yet – both in terms of tidy appearance and innovative features.

The 27-tonne eActros took pride of place, showcasing the future of electrification. The ground-breaking eActros, which produces zero tailpipe emissions, is aimed at those engaged in heavy-duty, short-haul distribution roles and heralds the dawn of a new age of sustainable road transport. Having already excelled in a comprehensive programme of ‘real world’ testing, it is now on sale to UK operators as a 4x2 or 6x2 rigid.

Trucks you can trust – for every job.

Every star needs the very best support, which is why several other Mercedes-Benz trucks were also showcased at Road Transport Expo. From the 6x2 Econic 2630 refuse collection vehicle, with unique low-entry cab and fully glazed passenger door that allows it to achieve a five-star Direct Vision Standard rating, to the all-terrain Unimog U319 implement carrier, suitable for every environment and just as at home performing municipal tasks as it is solving agricultural problems; we had something for everyone.

An Arocs 3363 tractor unit, together with our flagship Actros L completed the lineup – one of the most impressive of any major truck manufacturer at the show.

A driver focus.

The final day of the Road Transport Expo was dedicated to drivers and passionate truckers.  Driver focused seminars took place, while the luxurious Actros L was a big draw at the ‘ride and drive’ area, enabling truckers to experience unrivaled comfort and performance.

Further spreading the word on electrification and sustainable transportation was James Venables, Mercedes-Benz Trucks UK’s eConsultancy Manager, who is responsible for the full Daimler Truck eHGV portfolio.

During the event, James delivered a talk which emphasised how manufacturers are keeping pace with cities’ safety and emission regulations, while highlighting the latest developments in urban vehicle technology.

James also talked about the Mercedes-Benz Trucks UK eConsultancy package, a three-phase consultation service which provides all of the necessary solutions for transitioning to one of our electric truck models: from the initial consultation through to commissioning.

A resounding success

While the eActros making its UK show debut was impressive enough, the first-ever Road Transport Expo set a precedent for future events.
