Actros and Arocs in a heavy-duty convoy
Report
A construction vehicle weighing in at 68 tonnes needs to be transported to a construction site on the Meuse river – a special job for Aannemingen Princen, Jan Coesens Transport and driver Dieter Noreilde with his Actros for loads up to 180 tonnes.
In Belgian Visé a tunnel for a high-pressure fuel pipeline is being built through the bedrock under the Meuse. Aannemingsbedrijf Princen from Gingelom needs heavy-duty equipment for the job. The 68-tonne machine which is required for the task, and known amongst employees as “The Beast”, has to be transported to the construction site together with other equipment on a hot summer's day.
Shared job.
The convoy includes the company’s Actros 3363 and Arocs 3763. Annemingen Princen has brought another specialist on-board to help transport “The Beast”: Dieter Noreilde and his five-axle Actros 5563 LS for loads up to 180 tonnes which is towing the machine on a low loader to the border region.
Many sections of the route are very narrow – particularly for Dieter who drives for Jan Coesens Transport – as it follows back roads and very often there are only a few centimetres on both sides of the vehicle due to the wide load. Of particular importance to him is “good coordination with the escort who clears the way with his van.” In any case the tour to Visé went without a hitch!
