Italy: waste disposal specialist IT Risorse has an Actros 2551 Iron special model

Economics & Logistics

Come together.

IT Risorse is a waste disposal specialist company that relies on fully integrated processes within the corporation and with customers. The Actros helps to ensure it all works well – and the Iron model provides the necessary touch of individuality.

Second life: the undersea cables from a customer’s production are collected by IT Risorse and then recycled.

If you are looking for Ettore Coppola, you don’t need to go to the company headquarters in Volla in the province of Naples. You are far more likely to find the company director of IT Risorse in action out and about.

The field of activity of IT Risorse is challenging: it involves transporting and processing industrial waste. RoadStars met Ettore Coppola at the factory of a multinational corporation which manufactures undersea cables for telecommunications and works together with IT Risorse to recycle the waste material.

Coppola is just coordinating the loading of a tractor/semitrailer combination with a cable part that did not meet the tough production standards and therefore has to be taken to the recycling facility. If necessary, Coppola puts on a helmet and personally operates the special machine that picks up the bundles of cables with its huge clamp and places them on the semitrailer.

“IT Risorse was founded as a further development of the haulage company set up by my father Vincenzo,” explains the managing director. “As regards freight, we're active in a number of different sectors – from metallic materials to components for industry. Our particular broad expertise is transporting waste from industrial processes.”

Close cooperation: Actros trucks have been in IT Risorse’s fleet since 2004 – today, 27 vehicles bear the three-pointed star.

“We own a wide selection of licences and certificates that enable us to move hazardous materials too. We’ve gradually expanded our activities and we can now offer our customers the management of such waste products on platforms.”

The second generation of the family is represented in the company by his brother Carlo, who is technical manager, and his sister Rosa, who is responsible for communication and customer care. They make up a team that has extended the activities of IT Risorse so that they no longer just operate nationally, but mainly in Germany, Spain and Turkey.

“We have two categories of customers,” explains Carlo Coppola. “First of all, companies that ask us to deal with the waste from their production processes. In many cases this waste can be the raw material for other manufacturing processes; or it gets reused. We load up these products, sort them and take them to be reused, recycled or disposed of. In the second category there’s the management of consumer goods or components which by law are subject to a specific collection and disposal process. Here we provide the entire logistics cycle from individual collection to passing the products on to the relevant special plant.”

Personal note: IT Risorse deliberately chose the Actros Iron special model to enhance the company image – now three of these special trucks adorn the fleet.

IT Risorse operates in this wide field with its own trucks. The fleet consists of 30 towing vehicles for tractor/semitrailer combinations, 12 towing vehicles and 60 semitrailers. The semitrailers have different bodies according to requirements: container trailers, trailers for tippable swap bodies, box-bodies, tippers for light-weight bulk material and tautliners, and also platforms that can be tipped in both directions, for powdery material and blocks of stone.

“Low fuel consumption and high comfort for our drivers are what we expect from our trucks – that means safety, spacious cabs and a wide range of equipment,” says Carlo Coppola. “But we also value our image; which is why when we bought the Actros towing vehicles we chose the Iron special model.”

The company based in Campania can look back on a long cooperation with Mercedes‑Benz Trucks that began in 2004 – today 27 of the trucks display the three-pointed star.
