Only Ategos for Oxford Blue

ATEGO

Oxford Blue has relied on Ategos for over a quarter of a century.

Scaffolding company Oxford Blue put their customers first, providing an efficient and reliable service. They can only do this, if they have reliable trucks. Director Andy Durkin explains why the company have used Mercedes-Benz Trucks for over 25 years – keeping their workforce and projects moving.

Trusted trucks.

Oxford Blue Scaffolding was established in 1992 by Andy Durkin. Based in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, the company specialises in residential and commercial projects including hospitals and schools, taking them as far as London and Bristol. These jobs were made possible because of their trusted and reliable Ategos.

Why? Director Andy explains, “We purchased our first Mercedes-Benz trucks in 1994 and have been buying them ever since. I can honestly say that in those 25 years we’ve never had one break down on us.”

Time is money.

The company currently has five Atego 816s in its fleet, from three model generations – the oldest acquired in 2009. Reliability, power and quality are essential qualities which Oxford Blue requires in their trucks, to ensure the job gets done and their customers are happy. There isn’t room for breakdowns or delays, as time costs money.

“It’s all about money. Given the commitments we make to our customers, I cannot afford to have guys stood at the side of the road waiting for recovery trucks. With the Atego, that never happens – it’s a fantastic product,” enthuses Andy.

Quality vehicle spec.

The Ategos deliver in quality and robustness with the newest edition possessing high-quality spec, including a ClassicSpace day cab and a scaffolding body built to Oxford Blue’s own tailored design, enabling the truck to transport tubes of up to six metres in length as well as other fixtures. It’s powered by a fuel-efficient 5.1-litre engine which produces 115 kW (156 hp) with a six-speed Mercedes PowerShift 3 transmission – ensuring a smooth-shifting automated manual gearbox which contributes to economy.

The newest truck also matches the company’s previous models with a wheelbase of 4,820mm, “It means the trucks carry the load really well and makes for a more comfortable drive,” says Andy. He also praises the new Lane Keeping Assist technology.

Tough trucks which keep on going.

Oxford Blue now restricts its operations to within a 60 mile radius, but even though the trucks aren’t covering great distances, they’re still put to the test. The construction sites are often uneven and testing as Andy describes, “It’s hard work, though. Some of the sites we’re on and off can be pretty rough and the trucks get plenty of punishment, but they take whatever we can throw at them and keep on coming back for more.”

The Ategos also prove their worth over the years with their value. Oxford Blue keep them in great condition and the quality lasts and lasts, meaning when it’s time for them to make way for a newer truck and sell an older model, they never struggle to find a buyer.

“Each we time we buy an Atego 816 we see it evolve – getting better and better.”

Always Mercedes-Benz Trucks.

The business has always relied on Ategos, for their endurance but also the quality of the brand behind them.

“As everyone knows, a Mercedes-Benz Truck is a premium product, the best on the market. As well as offering the reliability that is so crucial to the smooth running of our business, when you sit in an Atego cab there’s a real feeling of quality and safety. What more could you ask for?”
