UK drivers give their verdict on RoadStars safety event
Magazine
Geoff Sales and Aaron Cluckie recently attended an exclusive RoadStars safety training weekend in Germany, we asked them what they thought about the event.
Driver trainer Geoff Sales and owner-driver Aaron Cluckie recently won a prize draw to try out new driving skills at a RoadStars Safety Training Course.
The two UK drivers joined 22 other drivers from 7 different countries at Baden-Airpark, Germany for a training event, including technical classes and on-track sessions. We asked them what they thought of the training and if they would consider attending a training event again.
Geoff, tell us more about what you do.
I am the driver trainer / CPC trainer for Booker Retail Partners, Thamesmead London. Most of my days are spent training our drivers and showing them the best way to get good Fleetboard results from our fleet of Mercedes-Benz vehicles (a mixed fleet of arctic and rigid vehicles). I also do Tachograph, defensive driving, forward planning, and driver licence upgrade training.
How often do you drive Mercedes-Benz trucks?
I drive Mercedes-Benz vehicles in some way most days, either
training in or testing them.
What did you think about Mercedes-Benz trucks before the
safety training event?
I have always liked Mercedes-Benz trucks, I drove
Mercedes-Benz trucks for many years in Mainland Europe.
What did you think of the safety training event?
I thoroughly enjoyed the safety training event. Although it did not change my opinion of Mercedes-Benz trucks, as I have always had the highest opinion of them.
What do you enjoy most about being part of the RoadStars
community?
I do enjoy being part of the Roadstars community. At the
event it was good to be able to network with other drivers who use
trucks in a different way to how we use them, to talk to people from
Mercedes-Benz and being able to share information with them.
Would you attend another RoadStars event?
Yes, in a heartbeat. The whole weekend was so well
planned, the activities, the people, accommodation, transport and
hospitality was beyond all expectations. Thanks Mercedes-Benz Trucks!
Aaron, tell us more about what you do.
I’m an owner-driver from Wigtown in southwest Scotland. I transport refrigerated goods between Ireland and the UK.
How often do you drive Mercedes-Benz trucks?
Never.
What did you think about Mercedes-Benz trucks before the safety event?
I thought they were just a run of the mill, every day, fleet vehicle. They had never really caught my eye much.
What did you think of the safety training event?
I enjoyed it very much. I was really impressed with the safety features of the truck, the driver comfort and performance. They are a totally different truck to what I thought.
What do you enjoy most about being part of the RoadStars community?
I enjoy it because it brings everyone with an interest in Mercedes-Benz trucks, from all over the world, together, each with a different background and story to tell.
Would you go to a RoadStars event again?
In a heartbeat I would!
